Course Description

This course provides the foundations for clinical decision making when working with patients with dysphagia. This course includes an introduction to dysphagia imaging, presents the benefits of each tool, and offers guidelines for determining which instrumental tool will be most appropriate based on your patient’s clinical presentation and relevant medical history. An overview of analyzing physiological deficits with each exam is described, as well as contraindications for both.


Learning Outcomes

  1. Describe when each imaging test is appropriate based on clinical presentation
  2. Outline the differences between FEES and MBSS
  3. List the contraindications for FEES and MBSS
  4. Identify anatomy when visualized on a FEES and MBS
  5. Gain basic knowledge of interpretation of FEES and MBSS
  6. Describe penetration/aspiration scale
  7. Determine usage of compensatory strategies

    Cali Hancock

    Cali Hancock attended the University of West Ga for both her bachelor’s and master’s degree in 2017 and 2019. Following the completion of her degree, she began working in acute care across two different hospital systems. In 2022 Cali began working for Carolina Fees (now a part of Patheous Health) providing FEES to patients in GA, AL, and FL. As a lifelong learner and young clinician, Cali enjoys the opportunity to continue to grow herself while also helping students and colleagues gain confidence and knowledge where they are in their career.
