The interpretation of laboratory values is a key component of patient care for the MedSLP. Lab Values for the MedSLP provides detailed instruction in applying knowledge of lab values to the management of the adult SLP patient. Special emphasis is placed on pertinent laboratory values and their potential effects on a patient's cognitive and/or swallowing abilities. Case studies are presented for integration of new knowledge. This live webinar is highly relevant for SLPs working across the continuum of care including acute care, outpatient, acute and subacute rehab, LTACH, and home health.

Course Description

Webinar Notice:

2. Successful participation in this course includes completion of the post-test with a score of 80% or higher, then participants will automatically receive a course completion certificate. If you would like to have your participation reported to ASHA, it must be indicated on the registration form. Participation will be reported to ASHA on a quarterly basis following successful completion of the course. Quarters run as follows: Jan-March, April-June, July-September, and October-December. 

3. ASHA CE Providers have up to 45 days from the course's end date to send your participation to the ASHA CE Registry. The ASHA CE Registry processing time usually takes one week. During periods of heavy volume, processing time may be longer.

    Brooke Richardson

    Brooke Richardson, MS, CCC-SLP is a Speech-Language Pathologist at UNC Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC. She specializes in assessing and treating adults with complex medical needs in the acute and outpatient settings. Ms. Richardson is passionate about treating the whole patient, considering the “big medical picture”, and she instructs graduate students and clinical fellows in doing the same. She has been instrumental in establishing the Respiratory Muscle Training program at UNC Rex Hospital. Prior to joining UNC Rex, Ms. Richardson was employed at Duke University Hospital where she was sought out by colleagues for her clinical expertise. She is a graduate of the Medical Speech-Language Pathology program at the University of Washington. Instructor Disclosures: Ms. Richardson has the following financial relationships.     Beth Cormell, MS, CCC-SLP

    Beth Cormell

    Beth Cormell, MS, CCC-SLP is an acute care Speech-Language Pathologist at UNC Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC. She has been an SLP for more than 25 years and specializes in treating medically complex and critically ill patients. Ms. Cormell has also been an educator for over 20 years and specializes in teaching classes in medical Speech Pathology and Fiberoptic Endoscopy Evaluation of Swallowing Beth Cormell has been a Speech-Language Pathologist for over 25 years. She graduated from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, and is currently working as a clinical SLP at UNCRex Healthcare in Raleigh, NC. She initiated the FEES program at UNCRex in 1997, and since, has completed thousands of FEES. Beth not only trains all UNCRex speech staff on FEES, but has also been instrumental in training clinicians and implementing new FEES programs throughout the country. She has taught FEES courses for more than 18 years, has presented short courses on FEES implementation and application at NCSHLA’s Annual Convention and at the ASHA Convention.
