Course Description
Do you feel confident in your clinical application of respiratory muscle training (RMT)? Unsure when should you target inspiratory training, expiratory training, or both? Join us as we review the principles of RMT, implementation as a therapeutic tool, and recognize the difference compared to other respiratory devices. Strengthen your clinical practice with this course as you’ll learn the clinical utility and application of RMT and use critical thinking skills for appropriate patient selection. There will be plenty of time for questions and interactive learning with video demonstration and case examples. This course is ideal for any SLP looking to improve patient speech, swallowing, and respiratory outcomes in various patient populations. Explanation of RMT for those with artificial airways, mechanical ventilation, and use of one-way speaking valves will also be reviewed in detail. Benefits of these interventions include improvements in voicing, swallowing, cough strength, secretion management, and tracheostomy and ventilator weaning and decannulation. Supportive literature and suggested readings will be shared.
