Self-Study: A Spoonful of Knowledge Helps the Medicine Go Down

Patheous Health Imaging and Patheous Health Education officially closes on March 31, 2026. Any learner who satisfactorily completes a self-study course by midnight EST on March 31st, with the intention to earn ASHA CEUs, will be reported to the ASHA CE Registry. It is our understanding that educational content will still be available after March 31st until August 1st. Self-study courses completed after March 31st will not be reported to the ASHA CE RegistryLearners will obtain a certificate of completion verifying the number of Professional Development Hours (PDHs) earned. Documentation should be kept and tracked by the learner.

Course Details

Did you know that quick look at the patient’s medications can provide an insight into a patient’s swallow function? This webinar will outline how medications can affect swallowing function. The instructor will provide an overview of classes of drugs and drug relationships to swallowing function in adults and older adults. Participants will have access to a downloadable cheat sheet summarizing medications commonly associated with dysphagia.

Rita attended Loyola University in Maryland for her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Speech-Language Pathology (2001). She has worked in multiple clinical settings including acute care, inpatient rehab, outpatient rehab, LTAC, SNF/LTC. Rita’s passion dysphagia evaluation and treatment led her to become FEES trained in 2017, and ultimately to join Carolina Speech Pathology, now Patheous Health, in 2018. In her spare time, Rita and her husband enjoy hiking, traveling, and scuba diving.
