Course Description

This intensive webinar provides the participant with the knowledge and tools to interpret lab values for the management of the adult patient. This course will provide an in-depth look into the basic metabolic panel, comprehensive metabolic panel, complete blood count and many other ancillary labs. We will explore how chemical and metabolic processes affect body function with special regard to swallowing and cognition. Case studies will be presented throughout the class to integrate learning. A complete labs handout will be included.

    Beth Cormell

    Beth Cormell, MS, CCC-SLP is an acute care Speech-Language Pathologist at UNC Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC. She has been an SLP for more than 25 years and specializes in treating medically complex and critically ill patients. Ms. Cormell has also been an educator for over 20 years and specializes in teaching classes in medical Speech Pathology and Fiberoptic Endoscopy Evaluation of Swallowing Beth Cormell has been a Speech-Language Pathologist for over 25 years. She graduated from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, and is currently working as a clinical SLP at UNCRex Healthcare in Raleigh, NC. She initiated the FEES program at UNCRex in 1997, and since, has completed thousands of FEES. Beth not only trains all UNCRex speech staff on FEES, but has also been instrumental in training clinicians and implementing new FEES programs throughout the country. She has taught FEES courses for more than 18 years, has presented short courses on FEES implementation and application at NCSHLA’s Annual Convention and at the ASHA Convention. She has been deemed competent for supervision and training in FEES by a board certified Otolaryngologist Beth Cormell has the following financial relationship to disclose: Ms. Cormell is a paid employee of RexUNC in Raleigh, NC and receives payment for this course.
