Course Description

Join us as leaders in the field take us through their very own case presentations! They will discuss their patients’ clinical presentations, take us through their dysphagia imaging studies, discuss their decision-making processes, and outline their impressions and recommendations. What better way to learn than through real examples? There will be video examples from FEES, MBSS, and Simultaneous FEES/MBSS. Research updates on the implementation of simultaneous FEES and MBSS will be discussed, as well. There will be a live question and answer session at the end of the presentation.

    Jo Puntil

    Jo Puntil, MS, CCC-SLP, BCS-S, is a distinguished leader in Speech Pathology, specializing in patients with swallowing disorders in critical and acute care. An ASHA Fellow and former chair of the CFCC, she has made impactful contributions to the profession through her extensive national and international lectures. Jo is also active on MedBridge, offering a variety of courses. With over 35 years of experience, she has played a key role in developing interdisciplinary rehabilitation programs in critical and acute care settings across Southern California and Utah. Her numerous honors and publications highlight her commitment to advancing knowledge and practice in acute care, making her an invaluable resource for clinicians and researchers alike. Jo Puntil will receive financial support from Patheous for presenting this content.
  • Dr. Jessica Pisegna

    Ph.D., M.S, CCC-SLP, BCS-S, M, Ed

    Dr. Jessica Pisegna

    Dr. Pisegna is an ASHA certified Speech Language Pathologist and is board certified in swallowing and swallowing disorders. Her clinical practice at Boston Medical Center focuses on rehabilitation of adult swallowing, voicing, and speech disorders. She centers her research on adult diagnostics and rehabilitation of swallowing, particularly evaluation and treatment methodology as it relates to clinical outcomes. Dr. Pisegna is dedicated to providing evidence-based clinical care and studying research to improve dysphagia outcomes, as well as teaching and mentoring others. Dr. Pisegna has numerous publications and regularly contributes to academic forums. She is an Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology within the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. In addition to her clinical, research, and teaching responsibilities, Dr. Pisegna is the Director of the Center for Voice and Swallowing and Section Chief of the Speech and Swallowing Service at Boston Medical Center. Dr. Pisegna will receive financial support from Patheous for presenting this content.
  • Vanessa Peregrim Lauf

    Vanessa Peregrim Lauf, M.S., CCC-SLP, BCS-S

    Vanessa Peregrim Lauf

    Vanessa Peregrim Lauf received her Masters in SLP from Loyola University in 2006. She received her BCS-S in 2017. She has been working for Patheous Health formerly Carolina Speech since 2016. She is currently the clinical manager for Patheous Health for the Northeast region, based out of Baltimore, MD. Prior to working for PH, she worked in acute care for University of Maryland Medical Center. She was also an adjunct faculty member for Loyola University in ethics and advanced dysphagia for more than 7 years. She has also presented lectures and posters at the state and national conferences.
